I actually grew to love Alicia for her impeccable human spirit and generous determination. I believe that this story should be read by everybody. It is an important story and should be carried by all generations. G-D bless you Alicia.

How her amazing story has never been made into a movie, I’ll never know. More people should know about this courageous and inspiring survivor. I was sad to learn she passed away a few years ago, but I know, that for those who know her story, she will never be forgotten.

Her book is deeply profound and I felt like my life had changed as a result of reading it. The sad reality is that the humanity has not left behind the horrors perpetrated during her experiences. I hope her telling her story helps move that process on.

Josh – although it was years ago that you posted your comment and you did not mean it flippantly, your comment about it being “an experience worth having” was seriously clumsily worded because no person – adult, never mind child – should have experienced what she experienced. The loss of her entire family alone could never be described as “worth it”.

Sorry but the comment made me wince. Much peace though.

I wished that we learned the story of this woman along with (or instead of) Anne Frank. She represents strength, perseverance, bravery and so much more. I have told people if this book at every chance I get. I’m very happy that I’m not the only person who feels this way. Great article!

It’s very confusing and people and places are mentioned without introduction. Who is the “they” that worried about Moshe” (presumably Alicia’s family). Where is this home that Moshe returned to? (presumably somewhere in Eastern Poland). Who is Zachary? (presumably another brother of Alicia). Where is the end of the sentence for “a Polish police officer asked her if she was .” . Why did they use “drug” as the past dense of drag?

Yikes.
