And, as always, yet another fascinating article.

We just watched the BBC movie “Krakatoa”. I told her of the tidal surge seen on the River Thames in London some months later but can now find no reference to that. Thank you GinieB for your personal input. Appreciated, and will let my daughter know of this. I asked some Anyer teenagers of their fears at that time, and they had none. Interesting to note too, we dragged a most enormous net through the sea, and then back to the beach, and the catch was pitiful. No fish basically. One must wonder what gasses are being emitted today around this coastline. Our week in Anyer after an attempt to stay at the Tanjung Lesung Sailing Club had many limitations. We participated in a ID Tourism Project, but it’s still a bit scary. We reckon it could go at any time.

The island was very new then, but he found several spiders had arrived there already. He wrote of the experience in his book, ‘A book of Islands’. There is also a good description of the eruption of Krakatoa in Eliza Scidmore’s book on Java. Both books are out of print, but can be bought on line.

Furnace said: “When I was a kid, I read a book in school about a man that sailed a balloon around the world and ended up on Krakatoa right before the explosion. (Fictional, of course.) If anyone happens to know the title of it, I would really appreciate it. I can’t find it anywhere.”

The book is called 21 Balloons

My report was 10 pages long, but your article encompassed about the same amount of information in much less space and time. By far one of the best-written articles I have read on your site!

It’s obvious that English is not k310’s first language. I think the information he/she gave to the comments was Damned Interesting too, and now sadly it looks as though you embarrassed them and that person has not posted again. And I note you have not contributed anything of interest to the conversation either.

I will admit though that this cracked me up:
